thanks for giving me that, i love my dumb made up ship. (which reminds me holy wine is still a thing and i know exactly how chapter 6 starts yet not at all how it ends) also this fandom on reddit is such a weird experience; they love yuri and dgaf about my baes like izumo and their main focus is the actual plot and worldbuilding (which IS good ok especially not that we've gotten to the meat of the Baal/Sool/Gehenna v. Assiah/Section 13/Illuminati ish, Kato is a good writer). i just wanna shitpost and ship tbh yet also talk about how good the character development really is.
fite me, p. much every single member of the Cram School Nakama + Yukio is now so far from where they started and the emphasis on growing up and clashing with the authority figures in your life (parents, teachers, etc.) and how Hard it is to navigate that as a kid shapes them tremendously. as Tatsuma Suguro told Ryuji towards the end of Kyoto Saga: "You don't need me to sing you those lullabies anymore;" now Ryuji's path is about him realizing that without "saving Myodha" he HAS no idea what to do now so he's following Lightning because he Needs someone to tell him how to be. Izumo having to accept that she'll Never get closure about her own family tragedy (and stop using it as a reason to push everybody away; i was SO PROUD of her when she said now that she's lost it all she finally feels free to do what she wants/she supports Shiemi as a true friend), Shima's arc is him embracing that he's willing to be a Bad Person for his own gratification yet also being torn because he does love his family, and ofc when Mephisto sums up Rin and Yukio's main problem right now: [Rin] need[s] to deal with the past and Yukio needs to deal with the present, and Mephisto's not gonna do the work for them. Konekomaru comes to terms with the fact that he's a Bad exorcist in the traditional sense but he has the potential to be a tactician that surpasses them all ("I'm the hero of this fight!" abloo yes you are hon), and he has the strength of character to stand up to everyone and defend Shima. (and nobody cares about Takara.)
