THE ULTIMATE VIVS' ZERO ESCAPE FIC TOP 10
Feb. 16th, 2021 05:23 pmIt's official: All my Zero Escape WIPs are discontinued and I've left the fandom. There was no drama or big reason, it's just that after 10ish years...I'm done. Told all the stories I feel like telling, made all the friends I'm going to make. I won't lie and say my personal reasons don't run deeper than this, but I have no desire to be a sourpuss here.
THAT SAID, I've posted 36 ZE fics on AO3 and thought I'd do a little Top 10 of my personal favorites, what I'd love for you to read if you dove into my own personal madness. Not including WIPs because that just seems unfair.
1. "Daffodil Like Yourself:" "When the Fields left SOIS, they left the esper cloak and dagger life behind. Three years later, Crash Keys drags them back in cursing and swinging. Hongou’s out of prison, First Nonary game players have all but vanished, and when Aoi and Light are the next ones kidnapped everyone has no choice but to cooperate in order to survive and foil a fatal plan." Aoi/Light, Seven+Junpei, Akane+Clover. What I consider to be the best fic I've ever written for this fandom.
2. "Man of three fears: integrity, faith, and crocodile tears:" "Junpei solves a murder and leans on his wife in the meantime." Junpei/Akane. Junpei solving a locked room mystery is good and I'm proud I managed to write this in drabbles.
3. "Leave It Unmapped:" "Phi asks Junpei for a big favor: To help her interrogate her mother about her past with Free the Soul. When they dig, they reveal something Phi can’t walk away from unchanged." Phi and Junpei gen. I LOVE PHI+JUNPEI, my headcanon duo forever and ever, and I love Phi Sr. and my and Lex's headcanon for her. This one got a really positive response and I'm very proud of it.
4. Splinter from the headboard in my eye:" "In one world, Carlos gets dragged into helping Aoi investigate a string of incendiary attacks on Crash Keys’ property, and stumbles across a larger mystery when he realizes he’s never meeting the same Aoi twice. In another world, Aoi just wants to stop constantly SHIFTing through time and space, protect his family, and resist falling for Carlos. These worlds intertwine and everything goes up in flames. A story told up, down, and sideways through time." Carlos/Aoi. My love of fire science and my love of Carlos/Aoi and time travel combined. I have a massive soft spot for this fic and how I told their surprise love story. Carlos/Aoi is my Aoi OTP after all!
5. "Seven Tricks Or Higher!": "While Akane is out of the country on official business, Aoi and Junpei are climbing up the walls. They try to kill time with sex, card games, musing on other histories, and ruining a perfectly good karaoke night. (Note: Aoi would like to apologize to Courtney Love for that last one.)" Aoi/Junpei. A present for a friend and a really fun story of Aoi and Junpei doing nothing in particular.
6. "I Can Be Your Long Lost Pal:" "It’s a long way from SOIS’ base to LAX, and Lotus and Seven decide to carpool. Along the way Seven proves he’s an expert at dodging questions about himself, but Lotus is persistent." Seven/Lotus. Originally written for a zine that never came to fruition, but I still love this one. I once got a compliment that I wrote Lotus really well and that stuck with me.
7. "Smoke, Mirrors:" "Junpei and Phi have a private investigation firm and no clients until one day they get two separate calls from newlyweds Aoi and Light, each asking them to spy on the other. Of course, neither party is one hundred-percent telling the truth about their reasons. Junpei and Phi would question the ethics of the situation, but if they did there would be fewer free steak dinners and less trust fund money." Aoi/Light, Phi and Junpei gen. This one is just fuckin' fun.
8. "eastbound, petrified forest:" "Diana and Carlos are given a car and a simple mission: Transport Crash Keys’ cargo from Point A to Point B, and don't get caught. "Falling in like" wasn't part of mission parameters, but it's welcome." Carlos/Diana. I LOVE CARDI AND I LOVE THIS FIC. I wanted to write something set in proper canon that didn't malign Sigma, and I think I did it here.
9. "Waltz of the Flowers:" "In a future where Dio succeeded, a young Left clone befriends the leftover relic of his conquest as she challenges his notion of happiness." Luna and Left Clone gen(?) I still feel like this one was slept on just saying.
10. "Starving for the Kind We Need:" "Akane and Phi will celebrate their anniversary come hell or high water." Phi/Akane. Because how can I not include Phi/Akane here???
And, well, close the curtain? I'm out, but I did have fun! Thank you all.
